A home based business is most people’s idea of a dream job.

No more sitting in traffic jams every day…
No more getting up on dark winter mornings…
No more office politics…
No more doing what you are told to do, and when…

If you are a parent it can be ideal to work from home and can save on costly child care, as well as provide benefits for your children of having Mother or Father around more.

Home business success does not always come easy though, and there are problems which can be ironed out with a little planning and thought.

Home Business Success Problem #1

Are you and your family taking your home based job seriously enough?

Remember, whatever type of home based work you decide on, it is a job and not a hobby. Even if you start out by just wanting to earn enough for extras for the family, it could well develop into something much more, so treat it as a proper job, and make sure that your family understand this. They will reap the rewards of your home business success one day.

Home business success problem #2

Do you have a work schedule?

All the family need to know that you do still have a job, but that job happens to be at home.
You need to create a schedule, especially if you have younger children. That may mean working unusual hours, but that is what makes working at home ideal -  you can fit your hours around your family needs. Your home business success depends on you putting the hours in especially in the early days.

Home Business Success Problem #3

Do you have a dedicated work space?

Do you have your own desk in a separate area of the house, or do you work on the corner of the family dining table?  It is not always easy to carve out a little bit of private work space, but if you can it will have many benefits.  Ideally you need your own desk, with enough space for your computer and printer, and maybe some shelf or cupboard space.  This space should be off limits to the rest of the family, especially if you have younger children.

Home Business success Problem #4

Do you believe in yourself?

This is a big one.
When your are at home and isolated, it can be difficult to actually see your own achievements with nothing to measure against.
You must get the above three problems solved and it wll help with this one.
Both you and your family must know that you have a proper job, with scheduled hours and your own workspace.   Take yourself seriously, and those around you will believe in you.
But you have to believe that your own home bussiness success is possible, and, provided your expectations are realistic, it certainly is!
You can only achieve that which you believe!

The rewards of a home based business are many – however, the roads towards home business success are littered with casualties. Get the foundations right, get your family on side, and have faith in yourself.
Remember why you started out on this sometimes rocky road to home business success.

OK so I am going to recap on where I am up to with my journey to online wealth and freedom.

I spoke on a previous post of the need for a mentor, and how I did a lot of research in finding my first mentor.

That first mentor advised students not to enter the Internet Marketing niche as a newbie, because you have no credibility in that area, no social proof, no previous success in the niche.  So, of course, I took the advice.

But I had no idea which niche to enter! I did loads of research on target markets, and decided to enter the parenting niche.

I thought this is an area that I know about and can speak with authority, and could be lucrative.  BUT the key was that I was not passionate about the subject!

Now don’t get me wrong – I’ve been a parent for 23 years and love my kids – but did not want to talk about being a parent!  I wanted to talk about Internet Marketing, because that is where my current passion was and still is.

In other words I was not passionate about my niche, and I believe that this is CRUCIAL. You must be passionately interested in what you are talking about, otherwise that lack of passion will come through in your writing.

So – write with passion is my advice today folks!

However on the positive side during my time with my first mentor I did learn loads about how to set up my blog, which plugins to use, how to set up analytics, write powerful posts, write my first ebook, set up a squeeze page, set up a shopping cart.  So I learned the basics, which has allowed me to quickly set up this blog.

I hope that this time my passion for the subject will shine through!

OK so we are up to the point where I found my new mentor!

This is only a couple of weeks ago and I have since set up this blog following his advice. I have been advised to set up a blog in my own name, in the Internet Marketing niche, and to tell my story – which is EXACTLY what I have wanted to do from the beginning.

Who is this fabulous person, I hear you ask – ALEX JEFFREYS, of course!

Traffic of course!  Post once to your main Wordpress blog and your posts are shown on multiple other sites, therefore increasing your site’s visibility.

Thanks to the incredible widespread availability of all kinds of content on the web, you can now increase  the reach of your online campaign by automatically and instantly cross-posting your blog or website entries on different Web 2.0 services, such as macro and micro blogging services (Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

It is another fantastic way to build communication and connect to your audience, and it can have a far-reaching effect on your campaign, particularly by getting the attention of people who have never visited your website.

The entries on your blog can appear on countless other platforms simultaneously, therefore getting the attention of new audiences, and opening up new channels of communication.

Some care is needed in setting up each link.  You will need to avoid duplicate postings, which can easily happen.

Wordpress have a number of plugins enabling cross postings, and you will need to utilise plugins, RSS feeds and Facebook applications, to link correctly.

To start to build my subscriber list.

I will ultimately be specialising in web and marketing audit evaluations, for both online and offline small to medium sized businesses.  Some of my time will be spent in networking at local business events, as well as at larger internet marketing seminars and workshops. with a view to getting my name and my expertise recognised.

I very quickly discovered that in order to learn any thing you need a teacher.  Since there are so many internet marketing coaches out there it is very difficult to decide who to trust your hard earned cash with. You may t hink it is as simple as googling ‘Internet Marketing Coach’ and choosing from the list. Remember there are so many people who have been through programs and courses and still not made any online income.  That could be because they have not taken the necessary action, but it could also be because they picked the wrong mentor!

What I recommend is list all the famous ‘gurus’ that you are interested in – go to http://www.gurudaq.com - from there you will be able to find a lot of the top guru websites.  Although do remember that the more famous the guru, the more expensive their coaching.

Your choice will of course depend on a number of factors :-

• What style of teaching you want.

• What type of internet marketing strategies you want to learn about.

• How much you can afford to pay.

Here’s what you need to do:-

• Go to their websites or blogs and get a feel for their style

• Sign up for their newsletter and get their free gift.  There should always be something for free!

• Read the emails they will send you regularly – there should be interesting, useful and understandable information in them.

• Maybe buy a product from them and test their customer service. Is the standard of their product high? Do you like their presentation style?  Did you learn from the product?

• Try to communicate directly with them if you can, and explain your requirements to see how they respond. Maybe you need to be able to interact 1 to 1 with your mentor – is this possible?

• Do they have a good reputation in their area of expertise?

I would estimate that most people try more than one teacher before they hit on the right one, and this can get very expensive.  You need to make sure that you respect their style and ethos.  Do they seem to have integrity or do you feel as if they just want your money. Do they have a refund policy if you are not happy?

If they have a forum join in and speak to the current students and get their views.

Do not be taken in because they have released a successful product – this is possible without actually knowing all areas of the business – if you have the money you can hire the people to produce a great product, write great copy, produce a squeeze page, send the traffic, and have a successful lucrative product.  You can then be hailed as the next guru of the back of one product launch, without actually knowing every aspect of the internet marketing business.  You need a mentor who knows their stuff and can prove their expertise, otherwise you will fail.

Yes there should be a history of successful products – not just one.

You must choose a person you feel comfortable with and can trust, and whose ideals you share.  The right choice can lead to quick success, a mistake can cost you time and money.  So please do your research before you make your decision.

The above advice is how I came to choose my mentor Alex Jeffreys – he is straight forward, easy to understand, down to earth, and just a really approachable person.  I would feel comfortable asking him anything,  knowing that he will respond quickly and honestly. He has built his business by helping others to succeed, and that is something that I aspire to.

The $64,000 question indeed.

The way I began was by searching for the best person to teach me – and boy did I search!

I am a complete researchaholic. You will realise this as you follow me – I will have a lot of free stuff for you based on my researchaholicism – like lists,lists and more lists – not forgetting mindmaps – Oh I do love mindmaps – but hey that is a whole new category – cannot wait.

No matter what I am going to do or where I am going I have to research every last detail.

This, my friends, is a curse on my life – I just do not know when to stop researching – I have a slightly obsessive personality in this respect.

This ‘quality’ I have has cost me some money over the last few months. Now don’t get me wrong – you do have to find out a ton of stuff and yes, you do need to spend some money on coaching,  BUT you really do not need 12 different guides on how to conquer social bookmarking – or 9 versions of how to set up your facebook account.

But if you read ‘all about me’ – hey I don’t buy clothes any more – so I buy 12 different versions of how to conquer social bookmarking and 9 versions of how to set up your facebook acount!!

But pretty soon I had to start hiding away the credit card statements in shame – so something had to give.

I thought OK from now on I will really only buy stuff that is absolutely necessary for my work – plus of course the things you have to have like hosting, domain names, autoresponders and the like.

Having said all this it is really difficult to stop yourself buying every new product because, lets face it, some of them are really good.

The difficulty is discovering beforehand which are good.  So now, guess what,  I research, but I research in the right places.

So to cut out all this for you,  if you want to know if a product  is worth your hard earned dollars then go to The Warrior Forum and read about it there.  It is the very best place that I know to research a product.

If your niche is going to be internet marketing, then it will do you no harm at all to join this well respected forum and post here to get yourself known buy other marketers.
