Traffic Generation Strategy – Part 4 – Pinging
When you have published a post you should make sure that you ‘ping’ the search engines to let them know you have updated your blog.
Wordpress does this by default, but there is a basic problem with this.
If you are like me you often want to go back to your post and tweak it a bit , or maybe you have just forgotten to add your tags or a link. So you go back and make the correction and republish. Now your post will get pinged again by Wordpress, and apparently over pinging will not go down well with Google!
Read this post – although it is written by the creator of the plug in which resolves the over pinging issue so is biased.
Now maybe Wordpress have resolved this issue in their latest version – I don’t know – would be glad to hear if anyone does know the answer.
So I do use the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer, as discussed in the link above. You can add you own list of ping services and can view the log to see that they have only been pinged once, no matter how many times you have edited your post.
I am no expert on this issue so would be glad to hear others opinions.
